Executive Committee Meeting

Present: Dr. Wallace Johnson, Dr. Joseph Whelan, John Brown, David Wolfe, John Sturgeon.

Dr. Johnson's calender:

Two shows with Dr. Whelan - Aug 5 in Mullens, Aug 15 on WJLS in Beckley.

Will contact WWNR radio in Beckley to get on there.

September 12 - Fairmont Rotary Lunch

October 6 - Public Television debate at the Nitro studio, sponsored by the West Virginia League of Women Voters. Beth Vorhees will be the moderator. Questioners will include Jim Wallace, Richard Grimes and a representative of the League of Women Voters. It will air at 7:00 PM on both public TV and radio.

No invitation yet to the October 8 West Virginia Broadcaster's Association debate. Charleston attorney Jim Lees will represent Dr. Johnson if he is not invited and legal action becomes necessary. The final decision will come in late August.

October 15 - 11:15 to noon - Hoppy Kercheval's radio show, aired on 58 stations statewide.

October 16 - 12:30 PM - Marion County Senior Citizens Forum, Fairmont. Around 600 are expected to attend. Will stress Medicare/Medicaid position.

The Secretary of State notified Dr. Johnson by letter that as of July 16 he had 8834 valid signatures and would be on the November ballot.

An advertisement is being run in the Beckley paper for a professional fund-raiser. The commission will be 20% of the take.

The Dr. Johnson for Governor campaign has $4038.11 cash in hand.

County chairs will be asked to help with fund raising.

John Sturgeon is to send out appeals to 113 of the PAC's on a list of 200 which was obtained from the secretary of state's office. This will include a cover letter, a copy of the letter advising Dr. Johnson that he will be on the ballot and a copy of the campaign brochure.

The committee then retired to the basement to watch a video tape of Dr. Johnson's appearance on "Viewpoint", which aired that morning at 6:30 AM on WCHS-TV, Charleston.

No date set for next meeting.
