Jobs - Mahesh talked to Don Davis, president of
the computer lab about the labs being small and how some of the
employee only seem to have minimal computer skills.
Don Davis said it was University Policy that the computer
lab staff only needs to have a limited amount of knowledge. GSC
agreed to work on the issue to extend the computer lab hours back to
3am and hire graduate students for those hours.
Jobs - a Grad student commented, "School of Management doesn't seem
appoint TA based upon GPA. It appears that TA's are appointed by
Professors. Also grad students in Computer Science are getting TA
position in the School of Management."
Jobs - a representative from the Career Center stated that although
they are small that they are in the beginning stages. The Career
Center is mainly for finding jobs off campus. The Career Center is
contacting small business in an effort to have more co-op positions
and not just rely on the larger tech industry.
Issues - Mahesh stated that he spoke to a representative from the
Library. He reported that the Library hours are short due to
security and financial reasons. Mahesh proposed that they keep at
least the lobby open til 3:00am
Issues - need more tables/study areas at the library
Issues - Copies - students get 20 pages per credit hour enrolled free.
Thereafter, they pay 10 cents a page. It was suggested that this is
standard procedure for most universities. This is not an issue that
GSC is going to pursue at this time. We will look into it in the future.
Issues - Why do Computer Science students have to take professional &
Technical Communications? It does not count towards graduation.
Issues - A student at the meeting stated that, "Waterview Apartments
have lots of fees and are against foreign exchange
students." The student recommented this web sight:
www.waterviewsuck.com
Issues -A student suggested that, "The university needs to change
lights on the tennis courts to day light savings time."
